Cooperation! What Is It Good For?

There was a responsibility of government that

I think the Republicans . . . began to understand . . . a little bit more in

this lame-duck session than they had in the previous, quite frankly, 18 months

or so . . .

- Sec. Robert Gibbs

Inconceivable. You keep using that word. I do

not think it means, what you think it means.…

Can the Republican Party be made into the Conservative Party?

Michael Filozof asks a different question in his American Thinker article "Is the Republican Party Finished?". He is not happy with the way the Republicans performed in this last Lame Duck session of Congress.

The lame-duck session of the 111th Congress proved one thing beyond a doubt: the Republican Party…

Democrats Deserve A Place In The Guinness Book Of World Records

According to the work of Terrence P. Jeffery at CNSNEWS.COM, I think that Pelosi and friends do deserve at the very least, a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Take a look at the table below showing the beginning debt, ending debt, and the increase in debt for the last three sessions of congress. keep in mind that in the 110th and the 111th Congresses, both House's were controlled by the…

Nullification in 2011!

By Alan Caruba

The great issue of our times is the same great issue of the 1830s. The question is whether Congress can pass legislation or the President issue executive orders that are not authorized by or consistent with the Constitution?

The federal government is a republic composed of separate and sovereign republics.

What recourse do the… Continue

Wicked holiday travel mocks global warming

Two days before Christmas the Obama administration moved unilaterally toward two go-it-along policies little noticed by the public and most likely timed to be missed by most Americans pre-occupied in preparing for Christmas Day:  1) Directives on greenhouse emissions and 2) the repeal of the Bush era's policy limiting wilderness protection.

It was EPA administrator Lisa Jackson who on December 23 issued a directive for…

Yes Virginia, There Is Problems Going To College

My nephew sent me a Christmas card with a message his daughter, YYYY, is going to study forensic anthropology in college. I sent him this letter to warn his daughter about the pitfalls in ethical behavior on campuses. After sending the letter, because of this time of year, it dawned on me this might be a letter for the twenty-first century that parallels the nineteenth-century New York Sun editorial--Yes Virginia, There Is A Santa Claus.

You may have relatives entering college that…

Obama's Good News is Bad News

By Alan Caruba

Watching President Obama turn his bad news into good news at his press conference and then reading the mainstream media turn facts upside down and inside out was, at best, bizarre.

The bad news, of course, is that since 2009 when he took office everything he has done to reverse the unemployment numbers has been a failure. The so-called Stimulus Act was nothing more than a Democrat pork-filled waste that only served to increase our insane national… Continue

First Amendment Blues

By Alan Caruba

“Congress shall make no law, respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” - First Amendment, U.S. Constitution

What part of the First Amendment does the Federal Communication Commission, led by Chairman Julius Genachowski, and three of its five appointed… Continue

Congress Should Make An Inquiry About NASA Published Global Temperature Data

This Press Release is about a request by the United Kingdom's Global Warming Policy Foundation for an Inquiry into the U. K.'s Met Office giving on three consecutive years wrong information about impending severe winters. I think these reports were propaganda to drum up support for conferences on global warming held in Copenhagen in 2009 and Cancun in 2010. The purpose of these conferences was to pass binding global legislation to force reductions in the use of fossil fuels as energy…

I accepted a challenge to explain why the "first responder" bill shouldn't pass.

The "first responders" were employed by NYC and New York state, as govt employees. The rather generous health care insurance plans provided to them should take care of them, not the federal govt.If the first responders are not receiving appropriate medical care, why are we asking the federal govt for money, why aren't we looking at the insurance plans that they all, already had, or looking to the state and city that employed these workers in the first place? If the feds take care of them,…

Living In An Undeveloping Country

That's not a typo in the title. I mean "undeveloping".  I am intentionally coining a new word. Undeveloping is the only way I can describe the country where I live, Venezuela, and although you may not want to admit it, you, in America are also  living in a undeveloping country. I'm  sorry but that is the sad truth.

When I came to Venezuela nearly 18 years ago, I found a clearly developing country with a vibrant and growing middle and upper class. Government institutions were clearly…

How Can The Mortgage Deduction Be Wrong?

A handful of politicians both left and right, recently floated test balloons

on eliminating the mortgage interest deduction in exchange for a more generous

standard deduction or a lowering of marginal rates. Special interest groups like

the National Association of Realtors and the National Association

of Home Builders
are howling that the mortgage deduction is a pillar of

home ownership and the US economy in general. On the contrary, the mortgage…

The Dunning-Kruger Effect Explains Liberals

Thanks to Cheryl Pass at My Tea Party Chronicles I have learned something new and I always enjoy learning something new. In a reply to comment I made on one of her essays, she suggested that I might want to Google the term "Dunning-Kruger Effect" because she thought it described liberals perfectly. And so I did just that and I can now say that I agree with her.

If  you are not familiar with the Dunning-Kruger Effect; first…

Busybodys, Nags, and Control Freaks

By Alan Caruba

Not long ago I saw a television documentary on the rise of the Third Reich in Germany. I have, in addition, read any number of books on the period of the 1920s and 30s. The lesson it teaches is that the Nazis did not suddenly arise, take control, and impose a totalitarian government…

Lord Monckton speaks out about the recent U.N. Global Warming Conference in Cancun

I found "The abdication of the West" by Viscount Monckton of Brenchley posted at Energy & Environmental News published by physiciast and environmental activist, John Droz, Jr.  aaprjohn@northnet.org

In the words of John Droz, Jr.:  “The Abdication of the West” is a disturbing report about the activities at the Cancun meeting. The reference to …

Fed Bans Christmas at The Payne County Bank

When I write semi-clever blog titles it is usually with the intention of "hooking you in" so I can blather on about some topic or the other. But this one is a little more serious even if some may accuse it of being slightly over the top.

This morning the Drudge Report carried a link to a story and…

Lake and other Illinois counties should wise up to the folly of approving wind turbines as a long-term and viable energy source

This article was first published in the Pioneer Press: Lake Forester under the title:  "Lake County should reject wind turbines" on Thursday, Dec. 16.  When posting at Freedom Pub, I expanded the title to include all counties in Illinois.…

NASA-GISS Is At It Again---Fudging Temperature Data

I am on an e-mail list from NASA called (eo-announce) Earth Observatory. It has been interesting like showing the fires around Moscow last summer, floods in Pakistan, and recent snow storms.

This issue has crossed the boundary for presenting information paid by American Taxpayers. U. S. government organizations should promote truth.

Look at the New Features and the World of Change: Global Temperatures. Go to the site and it will show you a globe illustrating global…
