Ron Paul's and Iran's bomb

Ron Paul made more news yesterday when he stated that Iran would be justified blocking the straits of Hormuz because our sanctions against them are effectively acts of war. Story here. His position on Iran, and their alleged nuclear weapons program, has been alarming from the start, but this statement kicks it up a notch (does quoting Emeril date me?), and shows…

Risky investments further compromise IL TRS pension fund

According to a recent report by the Illinois Policy Institute, John Tillman, CEO, Still leaving Illinois: An exodus of people and money, Illinois residents are fleeing the state and taking their purchasing power, entrepreneurial activity and taxable income with them. Pension reform was noted in the report as one of three changes that must take place in Illinois to turn the state…

A turn around for Illinois demands principled Republicans sent to Springfield

The Illinois Policy Institute, John Tillman, CEO, held another excellent Conference call on Tuesday, December 20, one of several I've participated in during the past few months.  The subject of the Dec. 20 call was timely, given that Illinois General Assembly Republican candidates will be thrust in almost perpetual motion after the New Year, scrambling to get their names before their Primary Republican voters in March in the hope of…

The 2012 Check List for America's Survival

By Alan Caruba

Many people make resolutions to start the year, but I think a list of things that must be done to protect and preserve the Republic should be tallied.

1. President Obama must be defeated in 2012 and the obstructionist Democratic Party must lose power in the Senate to ensure both houses…

10th District Dold bats a home run in voting for $1,000 instead of $67 before House cave in

I am still of the persuasion that had House Republicans been able to effectively get out the truth, as did my own 10th District representative, Bob Dold, the outcome would have been different.

Just why did Republican senators agree to the Senate bill which is silly legislation and which would be difficult to enact?  Do they have no spine!?  They must…

The UN's Global Warming Absurdity

By Alan Caruba

The 17th United Nations conference on climate change, i.e. global warming, has concluded in Durban, South Africa, coincidently the site of UN human rights conferences that were entirely devoted to attacking the right of Israel to exist. I am sure Durban is lovely place to visit, but the…

Edison light bulb receives a limited lease on life

As of Monday, December 18, the U.S. House was still at logger heads over the Senate's speedy, get-out-of-town passage of President Obama's two-month compromise extension of the payroll tax-cut, foolish in concept because payroll taxes are the only source of funding for Social Security which, as an entitlement program, faced a long-rang imbalance in 2010 of $16.1 trillion.

Little publicized was that…

Ron Paul Is Not As Bad As His Supporters

I had this exchange with a Ron Paul campaign worker. Names have been kept to ensure the ignorance of the people involved is exposed.

Ronald A. Lau

I wonder if Dr. Paul would remove the US presence in South Korea.

Ronald A. Lau

I also wonder if he knows what happened the last time the US left South Korea.

Victoria Ross Ledesma

We've been in South Korea long enough. If they…

Why It Would Be OK to Vote For Paul in the General Election - If We Must

I previously tried to show the Paul Supporters how they should frame Paul's [censored] ideas about foreign policy in the context of the end result, but they were more interested in causing fights and attaching blame.  As I and other 'Paul is at the bottom of my list' voters have said that we will vote for Paul if he wins, I'll try again to explain why.

In summary: The financial situation of the US will prevent it from funding the US military at levels that can support numerous…

Leaving Iraq

By Alan Caruba

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal…

The Original Tea Party - Dec. 16, 1773

By Alan Caruba

The modern-day Tea Party is a loose amalgamation of people who came together in March 2009 to protest against passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act otherwise known as Obamacare. There was a large gathering in Washington, D.C. with estimates of several hundred…

The Wind Power Pipe Dream

By Alan Caruba

Imagine if you will America’s mountain ranges topped by row upon row of wind turbines and America’s deserts and plains covered by solar panels. How ugly is that?

A recent Wall Street Journal article, “Wildlife Slows Wind Power”, took note of the slaughter of birds and bats by…

Failure in Springfield on Tuesday, November 29, offers positive news for Illinoisans

Kudos to the Chicago Tribune on Wednesday, November 30, for noting the failure of the Illinois General Assembly as its members adjoined a day earlier with little to show for its abbreviated one-day session.

Left undone by legislators was how to deal with the unfunded pension problem which affects the pocketbooks of Illinois taxpayers.…

Harry Griffith, superintendent of Lake Forest School Districts 67 and 115, under fire by citizens of upscale Lake Forest and Lake Bluff

As a resident of Lake Bluff, young people in Lake Bluff attend Lake Forest High School, District 115.  I am therefore a tax payer through the payment of property taxes to fund District 115 in Lake Forest.

As a resident of Lake Bluff I am involved, not only in the present scandal that has engulfed the upscale communities of Lake Forest and Lake Bluff, but also in efforts to open Lake Forest Districts 67 and 115 to more transparency under the 10-point transparency…

Eco-Absurditiy

By Alan Caruba

There are no lengths and no depths to which Greens—environmentalists—will not go to advance the greatest hoax of the modern era. It used to be called “global warming”, but when that was exposed as based on falsified computer models put out by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate…
