Liberty on Tap since 1984

He's Just a Champion for Transparency and Disclosure

That's my Congressman, Democrat Rep. Bob Etheridge of North Carolina, who likes to know who's asking him questions:

The college students with cameras wanted to know whether he supports the Obama agenda, which is a legitimate question. After all The News & Observer of Raleigh (which is home to a segment of his district) has portrayed him as a moderate ever since he first won office in 1996, despite his consistent voting as a reliable Democrat, earning a 95 percent liberal score last year by Americans for Democratic Action. Unveiling his true record could be devastating, as a Pelosi- or Kennedy-type could never win the district he represents.

While he got a little rough for these young questioners, I am told he did not utilize his ultimate weapon:

Another thing bothers me about this video. Etheridge keeps asking the kid's name, even declaring "I have a right to know who you are?"

Actually, you don't ... you jerk. Maybe you should pick up the Constitution and look it over some time. There is no "right" to know the name of people who bug you -- even if you're a congressman.

You're not the first person to suggest that, Keely. It wouldn't surprise me ... and would at least partly explain such shocking action.

He's drunk with power.

Is it just me or does he seem drunk?

Ben Shapiro at Big Government notes that "Etheridge is guilty of criminal assault under Washington D.C. law. DC Criminal Code §22-404(a)(1) dictates, 'Whoever unlawfully assaults, or threatens another in a menacing manner, shall be fined not more than $1,000 or be imprisoned not more than 180 days, or both.' "

Shapiro writes:

So, will the DC police do anything about it? Will Nancy Pelosi’s ethics committee do anything about it? Or will they claim it’s just another taped hoax, and ignore the dangerous and volatile behavior of one of their caucus members?

The answers are: No, no, and yes.

That is assault. Right-leaning activist are a lot less whiny than those on the "don't taze me bro" left. But that college kid needs to file formal assault charges against that punk congressman.
